Naomi Wolf, the former wardrobe picker for Algore, and other self defined 'visionaries' and 'brilliant scholars' will have an easy go of it in their quest to convince some Christians to follow the United Church of Christ type 'christian' feel good dogma and turn away from the Ten Commandments and the like. After all, their daughters attend church every Sunday in their tight Gap Drawstring velveteen cargo pants topped with a plunging Sleeveless empire waist T, which only irritates her Dad when the liberal evangelical 'new breed' preacher seems to smile a little too often at her during his 'feel reeeal good' sermon.
Contrast that with the 'fundamental' Tridentine Latin Mass Catholic girl who covers her head with a veil to symbolise her dignity and humility before God. There are certainly those 'christian' denominations that cater to so-called progressive Christians, which includes acceptance of deviant homosexual behavior, abortion, same sex marriage, women in the pulpit, etc. Eventually, these goof-ball churches will lose membership here like the Catholic Church did starting in the late 60's after the Second Vatican Council replaced the Latin and other traditions with their liberation theology pablum.
Archbishop Elden Curtis here cites a study in the sociology of religion by Roger Finke and Rodney Stark, "The Churching of America, 1776-1990: Winners and Losers in our Religious Economy," which makes the point that the more a religious organization compromises with society and the world, blurring its identity and modifying its teaching and ethics, the more it will decline. "Religious organizations are stronger to the degree that they impose significant costs in terms of sacrifice and even stigma upon their members". 'New breed' evangelical Protestant churches turn away from fundamental conservative teaching at their peril.
Fundamentalism is defined as a 'a religious movement based on a literal interpretation of and strict adherence to doctrine, especially as a return to former principles that should be implemented literally, not interpreted or adapted'.
You can always tell a liberal progressive Democrat or RINO 'christian' evangelical, they're always ready to reinterpret the Constitution as well as the Bible.
