Gov. Perry of Texas commited $5M to attract top scientists to Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) College of Medicine’s Institute of Regenerative Medicine to research adult stem cells.
Several years ago, Gov. Schwarzenegger
committed $3 Billion to embryonic stem cell abortion. "We daringly led the way for the high-tech industry, and now voters can help ensure we lead the way for the biotech industry." Californians went on to vote themselves a tax to the tune of $3 billion dollars over ten years to fund human embryonic stem cell research, something venture capitalists call 'a rat hole'.
Governor Schwarzenegger said that Proposition 71 would be a "boon" to the biotechnology industry in California. As Maudie wrote over a year ago, '18 months later, the headlines read 'Schwarzenegger Budget Cuts Schools, Frees Inmates' SACRAMENTO (CBS 5 / AP / BCN)'.
Two and a half years later, California is in crisis. One wonders what that $3B got them? Maudie's guess is that Rick Perry's $5M will outperform California's $3B. We're still waiting, Awnold.
