If you've ever wanted to know what is wrong with the Catholic Church, it's all
in this article. Not that it hasn't been anywhere else before, it has. In fact its been everywhere since Vatican II. Religions that stand for anything, stand for nothing. Christian denominations from the Epicopalians to the Methodists to the uber secular United Church of Christ defend or equivocate on abortion and homosexuality if not support those practices.
From this article, the pro-life Bishop Thomas Wenski of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando, Fla, despite his best intentions on abortion, fuels the confusion among Catholics which has led so many astray. 'Wenski also has spoken out about banning torture and finding a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants _ issues he said can be common causes for bishops and the White House.' Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, et al, are killing millions, and sadisticly torturing their opponents, but it's all done in their fight against poverty and inequality so we can find common causes with them. Shake hands, smile, confuse your flock, and delude yourself that God is pleased.
Three people waterboarded, hundreds if not thousands saved from real torture or death from the terrorist's plans, and bets are that Bishop Wenski considers waterboarding torture. Our soldiers are waterboarded as a matter of training. Even Vanity Fair's Christopher Hitchens was waterboarded. He's alive and well and calling it torture. Well, not perfectly well. Poor Christopher is having bad dreams about drowning after his 13 second episode. This reminds Maudie of drowning in the deep end of a swimming pool in first grade before we could swim. Who doesn't jump into a pool and not suck water as they learn to swim? It's called drowning. Only liberals have "bad dreams" about it. Normal people call it 'growing up'. Christopher wouldn't have to dream about his 'torture' episode if he had smugly consented to a couple of Nazi or Japanese torture methods. He could show us his missing finger nails. He could tell us about having his eyes burned out if he still had his tongue or his genitals weren't cut off and sewn into his mouth. We don't talk about these tortures, but we should. If our children are going off to school to listen to left wing teachers ignorantly call waterboarding 'torture', let's inform the little kiddies what the word meant just a few years ago.
"Many Catholics want to be open to at least discuss with the bishops the best way to move forward on our common goal" says R. Scott Appleby, a Notre Dame history professor. First of all, what is "our common goal"? This is the essence of the problem. "Let's talk" is indeed a liberal talking point. As Maudie has written,
2 plus 2 equals 4. What do you want to talk about? Abortion is killing. What do you want to talk about?
We subsidize illegitimate children in single mother households which allow them to have sex out of wedlock, knowing Big Daddy will be there with welfare checks. Obama is going to grow that program. We've murdered babies since 1973 and Obama is expanding that program; Tens of millions and counting. What do you want to talk about, poverty? When someone produces one coroners report from anywhere in America detailing the cause of death as starvation, we can begin the 1/50M poverty/abortion conversation.
As for Prof. Appleby's contention that "(The Bishops) are playing a very dangerous game because they do not have the moral authority they had before the sex abuse crisis", let's be clear. That would be the homosexual sex abuse crisis which was enabled by the confusion of Vatican II, the vagueness of its pronouncements, and the anything goes mentality that it fostered. As the homosexual abuse scandal on young altar boys was ignored and covered up, the preemptor was ignoring and covering for increasing numbers of practicing homosexuals in the seminaries. Father Flanagan was replaced with Father Perez Hilton.
John Jenkins,
Pope of Notre Dame, says his invitation to Obama will be used to engage the president on His abortion stand. Please! He's flying in, speaking the Chavez liberation theology, and flying out. Many Catholics from laity to Bishops, including Bishop Wenski will no doubt be impressed with his poverty/torture/amnesty speech. Meanwhile,
George Tiller smiles.
